My New Work Experiment

Hmm, I haven't finished blogging about my HK trip but since I only like doing that when I'm in the mood, I haven't updated my blog in ages. So 2 minutes ago, I made the conscious decision to not worry about blogging things in order and just blog as I like.

Tonight, I'm trialling a new food system at work. During crunch times, like we are going through now, one of my duties is to organise dinners for the people working overtime. Every year, during my performance review, I get asked which part of my job I dislike the most and every year, my answer is the same: Ordering dinners! It's really very difficult to order dinners. Inevitably someone will complain. Some people will say "You should always order from this place" while the others will say "This place sucks! Don't ever order from here again!" And our office is situated on St Kilda Rd, not that close to the city and not that close to St Kilda either. So every night we have a choice of pizza, Thai or Indian food. Its so damn boring and so damn unhealthy. And so, people start saying "Why can't we have healthy food for dinners?" But equally, there are people who will say "More Pizzas!"

It's really very tiring and difficult to please everyone with good dinners while they are working overtime.

So, back to my new system. This idea came to me in a flash last week when I got the yearly cries of "Why can't we have healthier food?" I decided to buy in lots of groceries so that people can easily assemble their own foods. As well, I also ordered lots of soups, stews and rice so people can quickly microwave up some meals.

Today is the first night that my system goes live and I am quite nervous about it. I think so far, I can see a definite split down the middle. Some are saying its excellent and have gone about enthusiastically making sandwiches, wraps and salads. Others are nervously poking at the piles of groceries and then settling for microwaveable soups.

I think most people think of groceries as "Oh no, there is so much work involved". Actually it only really takes 5 minutes to make a sandwich. But I understand how they feel, cos most days I feel too lazy to assemble any food.

I hope everyone will come to terms with this new system and love it, because it will mean I won't have to order dinners so often anymore.

Tonight I made myself a salad:
1 tomato
1/2 cucumber
1 leaf of lettuce
1 kiwi
1/2 orange
1 tin of zesty vinaigrette tuna

It really wasn't that hard!
